I love politics as a spectator sport, and although I follow politics closely, I 'd never allow politics to come between me and another person.  My wife is a Republican and I'm a recently-converted Democrat, but our political exchanges are civil, kind of like the exchanges between Mary Matalin and James Carville.

After being a model citizen and a model husband and a model parent for years and years, I had a mid-life crisis 5 years ago, during which I realized I've always wanted to make music but successfully repressed all musical instincts for most of my life.  I broke out 5 years ago, after a trip to Mississippi and a reunion with a couple of old friends, both of whom had been professional musicians.

Now it's a race against time, to see how far I can develop musically before I get too old to do it any more.  But it's been enormous fun.  And as midlife crises go, it's probably less expensive than a red convertible and less damaging than an extramarital affair.
